Operating Model

Value Chain

In order to profit from alternative crops, farmers desperately need access to a complete value chain – from quality inputs to end product marketing and sale. When we created microforestry, we resolved this need.  KOMAZA’s operating model supports the world’s poorest farmers through all four stages of tree production:

Rural Cell Model

We organize our work into self-contained units of operation called Rural Cells. At scale, each Rural Cell will have a central office and tree processing facilities that serve roughly 9,000 farmers. This way, we streamline production and minimize costs of overhead, transport and processing equipment.

Within a cell, we promote efficiency and service through a decentralized Field Extension Network.  Locally-based field staff will follow a step-by-step manual to support farmers through every stage of production, from planting to selling final products. The lean and easy-to-replicate nature of our model builds the foundation for rapid scaling across Africa while maximizing final profit for our farmers.
